With COVID still looming overhead, any reason to celebrate is a good one. So it’s no surprise that now, more than ever, folks are choosing to hire professional photographers to capture their proposal stories. Let me tell you, friends, I’m a fan! In fact, proposals have quickly become one of my favorite events to photograph. There’s just something so thoughtful about the forethought it requires to hire a photographer to capture this momentous occasion. So when Mike contacted me about capturing his and Jordan’s proposal story, I jumped at the chance.
Mike & Jordan’s Love Story
Mike and Jordan met at an American Quarter Horse Association seminar. They were both in high school at the time. They went their separate ways, but reconnected almost ten years later, bonding over their mutual love of horses. After about a year of friendship, the pair made their relationship official. “We haven’t gone a single day in two years without talking,” says Jordan. “We celebrated one year together in September.”
In addition to their mutual love of horses, the two love spending time outside, whether its curled up by a cozy fire, visiting wineries, or exploring new places together. When asked what he loves most about Jordan Mike says, “She makes me smile even when I’ve had a bad day…she is the most patient and loving person I know.” Posed with the same question, Jordan says “He is so kind, patient, and calm.” Both agree that they’re blessed to have fallen in love with their best friend.
Planning the Perfect Proposal Story
“I knew we needed photos of [the proposal] to remember forever,” says Mike of why he chose to book EmmiClaire Photography. During our consultation, Mike asked for recommendations regarding locations for the big question. I was happy to oblige. Knowing Jordan’s love for the mountains, horses, and a good bottle of wine, we settled on King Family Vineyards in Crozet, Virginia.
The Plan Is Revealed
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about life, it’s that the best laid plans often go awry. Jordan caught wind of the plan the morning of the proposal. “When I caught him in the safe that morning, he looked completely guilty and came up with a fake story about getting something out of it… even though the safe is empty.” Even though his cover was blown, the day was still everything that Jordan dreamed it would be. “Mike put so much effort into making the day perfect,” she says. “I still couldn’t contain my excitement and happiness when he knelt down on one knee.”
Looking Forward
“I can’t wait to spend everyday with my best friend forever,” says Mike. How sweet is that?
