As the magic of the holiday season quickly approaches, bringing with it the gathering of families near and far, I am often reminded how fortunate I am to be a photographer. I am the archivist of memory, the chronicler of time’s passing, of growing families, of cherished loved ones. What a privilege that is! And, if I’m doing my job well, one of the things I love most is this: clients continue to seek me out as their photographer for every season of life…

The Beginning of a Beautiful Friendship

This time last year, Carolyn and Keith reached out to me for maternity photos. To date, I’ve had the honor of photographing their little family two more times. Of course, a newborn session with Carolyn and Keith’s twin boys was essential. But this year, the family also decided to book me for a fall mini session! How precious is that?

There’s something so special about having photographed the twins in utero, as infants, and (more recently) as toddlers! As a way to commemorate their journey with me, I simply had to throw it back to where it all began… their maternity session!

The Lifecycle of Photography Clients

Ever to my delight, the lifecycle of my photography clients can be long-lived. Portrait clients become wedding clients, who then become maternity and newborn photography clients. Then there’s the annual family photos or mini sessions. Maybe somewhere down the line I help with branding photos for a new business. Or maybe the family needs a photographer for a child’s graduation or senior portraits. Whatever the moment, be it a milestone or a quiet Saturday at the park, I’m honored to be a photographer for every season of my client’s lives.

Forging a Bond

The best part? Though I pride myself on knowing all of my clients well, I get to know my repeat clients in a way I wouldn’t normally get to know a one-time client. In short, when clients choose me as their photographer in every season of life, we forge an intimate bond. I know what they like and dislike, how they behave in front of the camera, how to best coax them out of their shells. All of this makes for photos that I know they’ll adore.
