8 Wedding Photos You Don’t Want To Miss On Your Big Day

You’re getting married? Congratulations!

Planning a wedding can be extremely overwhelming, and endless Pinterest scrolling, while sometimes fun, can also be exhausting. As a wedding photographer, I appreciate fun, unique, and quirky photos that show the personality of the couple. But, there are a few classic images that you may not realize you want to capture as well as those more unique moments!

The Dress

You may think that you want to skip this photo, but you may regret that decision in a few years! Getting artistic detail photos of your wedding gown while it’s hanging or draped is a tasteful and traditional way to preserve the beauty of your fantasy dress forever…even after the fabric has yellowed! Another great traditional image? The Maid of Honor or Mother of the Bride helping to zip, button, or lace you into your gown!

The Rings

Getting a photo or two of the wedding rings is a sweet way to represent your love and unity in your photo albums, collages, or even on your thank you cards! Sometimes rings get lost, a stone gets lost or damaged, or are unable to be re-sized when needed. Having images of the rings you had when you first said “I Do” will be a memory you will cherish forever!

The Groom’s Reaction

Whether you’re doing a first look or just walking down the aisle, getting a picture of the Groom’s face when he first sees his partner is priceless! Even if it’s not noticeable to some, to the one he loves dearest the change will be there: a broader smile, tears, laughter…joy will radiate from the image for a lifetime! Bonus points if there are two photographers present and they capture both of your faces…and maybe a few family members!

The Vows

Individually written or traditional, the exchanging of wedding vows is a powerful and intimate moment. This is the time where you’ll see the emotion really flood out, as you promise to be a true partner to your loved one for the rest of your life. Finding just the right angle to capture this moment is crucial, so make sure to show your photographer where she is able to stand to get just the right shot!

“I Do”

The big moment! It may seem obvious that you want this memory frozen in time, but there are some logistics that go into the image! Making sure that the photographer has an unblocked vantage point is key, so making sure guests know to stay out of the aisle or having an accessible vantage point for the photographer during the ceremony is critical to capture that loving kiss!

The Dances

With the reception in full swing, you will probably be hitting the dance floor! Capturing images of your first dance as a married couple will give you a beautiful glimpse back at those first hours together. If you are doing any other traditional dances (Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, etc.), gifting your parents and loved ones images of those shared moments will be incredibly meaningful for them for the rest of their lives.

The Cake

Is anything more iconic than beautiful a towering wedding cake? Or, maybe you are more nontraditional and you’re planning pie, donuts, or a dessert bar! No matter your dessert of choice, capturing the delightful confections both whole and as you cut and serve them will be a wonderful detail to remember and share for generations to come.

The Send-Off

If you have a grand exit planned for when you leave the wedding reception, you will absolutely want to capture that in photos! Whether you have a late-night sparkler send-off or have a car bedecked with banners, ribbons, and cans, showing the unique way you leave to start your life together is an image that you don’t want to forget.
