The Beauty is In the Details

I believe that the people who participate in your wedding day matter more than the stuff you choose to include. But I understand that many couples work diligently to curate special details to set their weddings apart. Whether it’s an heirloom ring box passed down through generations or a handkerchief you’ve had specially made for your mother to dry her tears during your ceremony, those details matter! Those details deserve to be given a moment in the spotlight. One of the things that sets EmmiClaire Photography apart is wedding detail photography! I capture those heartfelt heirlooms so you can cherish them for years to come!

If wedding detail photography matters to you, then there are a few things to consider when preparing your details to be photographed.

Place All of Your Wedding Details in a Special Box Before Your Wedding Day

The best tip I can give to any couple hoping to include wedding details in their preferred shot list? Come prepared! Before you begin curating wedding details, find a box where you’ll place most of the items you want your photographer to capture. Bonus points if your box can be repurposed as a memory box for you and your sweetheart or used as a gift/card box to be used during your wedding reception!

Details you might include: your wedding shoes, accessories, family heirlooms, ring box(es) with your rings, vow books, and your invitation suite.

Discuss Detail Shots with Your Wedding Photographer

Keeping the lines of communication open with your photographer is key when discussing which details you’d like photographed. Brainstorm a preferred list of detail shots that you’d like included and make sure to discuss with your photographer!

Discuss Wedding Detail Photography with Your Other Wedding Vendors

There are a number of other items that you may want to considering including in your wedding detail photography that you may not be able to prepare ahead of time. Many of those items will come from other wedding vendors – your cake artist, floral designer, rental company, etc (for some of my favorite wedding vendors, head on over to my Instagram). If you’re planning on including any of those items in your detail shot list, not only should you discuss with your wedding photographer, you should also discuss with your specific wedding vendors to ensure that items are photo-ready and set up quickly upon delivery on your wedding day.

If you’re working with a florist or floral designer, make sure you let them know you’d like some blooms and spare ribbon to be set aside for detail shots! Ribbon and florals are both items that help transform your wedding detail photography from plain to spectacular!

Designate an Assistant to Deliver Your Wedding Details to Your Photographer

Save yourself the hassle of delivering wedding details yourself. Designate a trusted member of your family, wedding party, or (better yet) your event planner/coordinator to deliver your wedding details to your photographer early on the day of your wedding!

Allow at Least 60 Minutes in Your Timeline for Wedding Detail Photography

When it comes to planning a wedding, timeline is key! Ensure to allot enough time in your timeline for your photographer to capture all of the wedding details you’ve poured your heart into curating. The more time the better, but make sure you also consider delivery times for other wedding vendors who will provide items to be photographed!
